As is the case with products for professionals insuring against climatic hazards, individuals will also soon be able to protect themselves against the vagaries of the weather. Poweo and the insurance broker Aon will thus be offering French energy producing clients insurance against cold weather. Concretely, for 4 euros per month, a Poweo client can subscribe to a guarantee ensuring compensation in the event the average temperatures measured for their region are less than a grid previously drawn up by Aon and METNEXT, a subsidiary of Météo-France and the stock exchange operator NYSE Euronext.
200 euros maximum
The client will thus receive, for each day concerned, one euro per degree of difference with the grid temperature. Compensation is capped at 200 euros per client per year. This product, for the moment designated for new Power clients only, will be available at the beginning of 2009 for all clients. The energy producer has set a subscription rate level of up to 15% from its new clients as a goal for this insurance product.
